Our Approach
Storygeeks.com takes a particular approach to story, different than many who offer similar services over the web (or otherwise). Everyone basically talks about the same "stuff" when it comes to story: dialogue, tone, pacing, characterizations, jeopardy, etc. This is true. The problem, as we see it, is that it all gets very formulaic and canned. We're not saying you won't get some useful information, but the price you may pay is that you die of boredom wading through all the boilerplate.
Our approach is anything but canned. As mentioned on the Basic Story Analysis page, it starts with structure and ends with structure. You are doing yourself a disservice focusing on tone, pacing, dialogue, etc., when the structure isn't working. Who cares if the main character's dialogue is off... if you don't really have a main character to begin with?! If the structure is broken, everything will be broken. It's a given. Structure issues are what we call First Draft Concerns. Everything else (dialogue, pacing, setting, etc.) are Second Draft (and subsequent) Concerns.
We focus on First Draft Concerns and this is what you are paying for when you buy our services. Second Draft Concerns are dealt with in the phone conferences (everybody gets one) and in the follow-up emails. Between the two, you will get the creative solutions you are searching for and your script will love you for it.
